By the look of things it’s definitely summertime, when I like to take it a little easier, get outdoors and enjoy life. And getting out to meet this young brother and sister was a serious treat! I love the easy-going way that this pair just went about their jolly ways while allowing me to catch some sweet summer moments for their mom and dad.

Green grass and a clear blue sky along with some of their favorite things brought out the beautiful shine in 9-month old N. and two-year old M.’s sparkling personalities.

And I’m so very glad we had a chance to catch N.’s roly-poly babyness – and his brand spankin’ new teeth!

I seriously *love* a good chase, followed by those quiet moments…

…and a family that plays together. I hope you all had as great a time as I did making these portraits for you. It was my pleasure. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

To Dad with love

Here’s a little reminder that Father’s Day is just around the corner (June 20th), and this surprise portrait gift session might just give you a great idea if you’re stumped for a personal and long-lasting gift for Dad. We had an unusually summery day in May (high of 90 degrees!) but you wouldn’t know it from the sweet smiles on their faces. Mom helped to rally the troops, in pure Super-mom fashion…

These two very funny and very smart young brothers were kind enough to show me around their backyard, and before you knew it, we were off!

And Mom, I’m happy to say I did capture some unguarded smiles in between all the serious hijinks!!!

It’s always nice when I can get Mom in the portraits, too–it wouldn’t be the perfect gift for Dad without her! I want to thank you all–Mom, J. and N. for a really super session. And thanks for the breaks in the cool air and for hanging in there when it got a little too darn hot. I’m hoping Dad will have a nice surprise when he opens his gift. Happy Father’s Day to you and yours!

Make a wish…for a sister like this!

What do they say about sisters—best friends forever? In this case, they hit the nail right on the head! This 5-year-old and 7-year-old dynamic duo brought all their sisterly love to this Saturday morning photo session.

It was so very nice and easy to get to know you all. Thank you very much J. and M. for showing me around, and for letting me keep up with you. A very special thanks to mom and dad for allowing the girls and I to run a “little” wild, and I can’t forget Grandma J. for her help, too. The pleasure was truly all mine—you are one fantastic family!

Baby, take a look at you!

Here’s Baristaville’s very own 2010 Baby New Year, greeting you in all his plump and perfect glory. I never met a baby I didn’t fall head-over-heels for, and little J. had me at “Gooo…!” What a pleasure to meet him, his amazing (and I mean that in all senses of the word!) big brother H., his dear mom and dad, and uncle I., too! Your entire family is just as sunny and warm and generous as all that fantastic sunlight that spilled through your magnificent windows the morning we met. I really had a fantastic time and I hope you all did, too.

Five little, six little, seven little cousins

Portraits make great gifts, and nothing could be better than a couch loaded to the brim with super cute kids, all in honor of granddad’s birthday! Nope, you’re eyes are not deceiving you — you do see two sets of twins (both under the age of 3) snuggled up on the couch with their older cousins — all beautiful, unique little buds growing in the same family garden. I think these pictures pretty much speak for themselves — we had the best time, and the absolutely most gorgeous natural light I think possible for this momentous session.

Aaah…there’s that family smile in full effect…

…and such bright eyes on these twin-kling stars.

Girls just want to have fun, so they DO! (and big thanks to auntie H. for all her super accessorizing!)

Every family needs a rock-star — in this case, two!

And I would be remiss if I didn’t share my favorite kind of portrait — the “kids being kids” shot that helps tell the whole story — the ups, the downs and the “are we done yets?” I must thank R. and her lovely family for allowing me to capture all the action. I truly hope that granddad will wear a great big smile when he receives his gift. Viva la cousins!

We need a bigger boat!

There you are just rowing along through the sea of life with your family of four, and then an incredible thing happens…TWINS are on the way! What joy it will be to have 20 more fingers and 20 more toes to count, and two big sisters to lend a helping hand to mom and dad. Yep, I’m talking about the one and only “Curly Girls”, who are soon to have a new little brother and sister to play with.

Big sister K. is jumping for joy — the babies are almost here! This session happened at 38 weeks…get ready to sing the birthday song (and stay tuned for a sneak peek at the newborns soon!)

I couldn’t be happier for P. & R. and their beautiful, happy family.

And big sister E. is already mommy’s little helper extraordinaire.

Best wishes and much love to you all — I seriously can’t wait to meet the new babies and photograph those first sweet days for you. I’m sure they’ll steal your hearts and mine. See you soon!

Girls with the most cake

There are certain rites of passage when you turn the “Big One” which include silly party hats, a first-ever slice of cake (preferably chocolate!) and a massive clean-up. It was no exception for these seriously sweet (even before the cake) twin sisters. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing these little pixies since they were three months old, and I’m always in awe of how fast and furious babies become infants become toddlers. It’s like you blink and they’re standing up and asking you for more juice, please.

I wish these little big girls many, many happy returns, and a second year full of wonder and joy and all good things. So glad I thought to get the family portrait pile-up *before* the cake was served — ha! Thanks again to our local interior design guru and hip-kids style maven Nancy Breslin and her lovely family for allowing me to catch all the fun and excitement that a first birthday brings!

Winning smiles

Oh, this family’s not only the bee’s knees, they’re also the winners of my 2009 Barista Kids portrait session giveaway! Congratulations again, and so glad you could use your prize for some fun fall family portraits! (Can you say that really fast three times?!)

You all must know by now how I do love twin toddler energy, having a set of toddler boys at my house. I personally think it’s fascinating to see just how fast they can move in opposite directions : )

Add some pumpkins, bales of hay, and let the fun begin!

Many thanks to mom, dad and all the boys for a great shoot on a chilly fall afternoon. After all the wait, I think we scored on the fall foliage, so I’m glad you’re so happy with the results…me, too!

Happy holiday sessions

Okay–catching up on previews, which are now more like beloved re-runs as these families have already gotten the whole kit and caboodle. But I wanted to share these with you as well. Thanks to all the families for making this holiday season so very fantastic. Wishing you all a very happy holiday season, and a new year beyond your wildest dreams!

I think there are never enough chubby cheeks to go around, and this brother-sister twin team has some of the best I’ve ever seen! Just loved that we had such a beautiful fall afternoon to catch all the family fun. Thanks to mom and dad for being flexible around all that rainy fall weather. Special thanks to Grandpa F. for all of your key jingling holiday spirit that made this family shine!

Lots to celebrate during this session (below) — a double birthday weekend for this brother and sister who aren’t twins (imagine that!) and a family holiday portrait session to boot. I thoroughly enjoyed capturing this very handsome family for all these special occasions rolled up into one. Especially love Miss M.’s effortless smile (takes after her mom) and please tell Mr. J. I’m so glad he “didn’t” smile…just kidding…gotcha! And I was thrilled to get a truly shining portrait of mom and dad together–when’s the last time you and yours had the pleasure?! Beautiful day, beautiful family–so happy I got to know you all better on our walk to the park!

And these three sibling superheroes (below) possessed amazing powers, and I basked in the glow of all that energy! How could I not have fun chasing super kids around their backyard? It’s just not possible I say!!! Thanks to mom and dad for entrusting me to capture all this wonderful personality, and for letting us have the run of the yard for our session. Super fun!

Holiday mini-sessions—finally!

Okay, to interrupt the chirping cricket soundtrack that’s been looping on my blog lately, I’m happy to finally be rolling out some previews from the holiday mini-sessions. Thanks so much to all the families who are staying flexible about the schedule for what I think is one of the moistest falls we’ve had in a long time. Don’t get me wrong, I love rain—seriously—but it doesn’t always make for great portraits. So glad that we had a streak of sunny days to get these portraits made! There’s still a little time left for you to book yours. I’ve extended the holiday mini-sessions through next weekend, Sunday, November 8. Catch the fall colors while they last!

This mother and son are my new BFF’s! The fun started the minute we jumped out of our cars until we sped away with silly grins on our faces. Mr. E. has the best sense of humor of any 7 year-old I’ve ever met…

…and I do love a mom who knows just when to turn on “the tickle.”

So glad to have met you both, and thanks for a super-enjoyable, easy, (literally) breezy mini-session!

I don’t think it possible for this family to be any more genuinely happy. At one point, I just had to ask, “Are you guys for real?!” I’m here to tell you the answer is a resounding “Yes!” It was my pleasure to bask in the glow of all this family love, and as luck would have it, on a glowing sunny afternoon. A tribute to you all.

I personally think that happy parents make for happy kids, and this session was no exception. And special thanks to dad for helping to make those smiles shine from behind the camera (just how you did it will be out little secret!).

I think these smiles say it all. Thank you all again for a really wonderful holiday mini-session. It was so very nice to get to know you!
