I’m tickled pink that Sara Hicks at Party Perfect has featured another celebration (We’re number one!) that I had the very good fortune to photograph. I absolutely LOVE a party. You never need a reason to throw one, but my favorite has to be a birthday bash. There’s an expectation of decorations, whacky hats, silly games, a possible “surprise” element and, of course, cake. And don’t forget the big wish! This universal celebration of life is something we can all appreciate. What kind of party are you planning? Don’t forget your camera!

Something to celebrate
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010Girls with the most cake
Sunday, December 20th, 2009There are certain rites of passage when you turn the “Big One” which include silly party hats, a first-ever slice of cake (preferably chocolate!) and a massive clean-up. It was no exception for these seriously sweet (even before the cake) twin sisters. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing these little pixies since they were three months old, and I’m always in awe of how fast and furious babies become infants become toddlers. It’s like you blink and they’re standing up and asking you for more juice, please.
I wish these little big girls many, many happy returns, and a second year full of wonder and joy and all good things. So glad I thought to get the family portrait pile-up *before* the cake was served — ha! Thanks again to our local interior design guru and hip-kids style maven Nancy Breslin and her lovely family for allowing me to catch all the fun and excitement that a first birthday brings!

We’re number one!
Friday, October 9th, 2009“Apple Doo-Doooo! Apple Doo-Doooo!” Roughly translated, that’s “Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you!” as sung daily and loudly by both of my twin sons in preparation for their upcoming Big Two celebration. I’m happy to say that this birthday party photo session for one year-old twin brothers gives me another opportunity to state very plainly that “I love my job!” Seriously, how much more fun can you have than a birthday party?! Take two little fellows who are introduced to their first and very own birthday cakes, add party hats, polka dots and streamers (”party-in-a-box”—a hand-made gift from our very own Cohabitot blogger, Nancy Breslin) and you’ve got the makings of an epic celebration.
It’s true at some point during a first birthday celebration someone has just a little too much cake, and then without any notice someone just lets go and takes their first few steps right in front of the party photographer (YES–I got it, and look at the proud look on his and mom’s faces!). Talk about a party to remember. So glad that all it takes is a nice wipe down from mom and a hug from dad to make it all better in the end. Smiles all around and way too much fun had by all. Very happy birthday wishes to you M. and T.–thanks for letting me share it with you. See you all next week for more photo fun outdoors!

Party city
Sunday, September 20th, 2009Happy birthday, Mr. Contractor! Let’s hear it for little A. who knew exactly what theme he’d like to celebrate his big fourth year. And, thanks to a very loving mom and dad (who are both obviously really big fans of his incredibly vivid imagination), this was the construction birthday party to beat all! I happen to know that mom, interior designer and hip kid stuff guru Nancy Breslin, master-minded the whole shindig. It’s evident that she has a creative flair and tenacity for organizing a large group of small kids and lots and lots of paint. How she’ll top this one, I don’t know! For some really stylish tips for your kids be sure to check out Nancy’s blog Cohabitot.
Can they paint it? Yes they can, and they surely did. I’m still in awe of the creative insights and abilities of young children. After each guest was equipped with hardhat and apron, the “work” began. No need for instructions, tutorials or “let me show you how”–they just instinctively picked up a brush or roller and got to it. Boys and girls alike dug in and transformed the plain cardboard structures into a rainbow of rowhouses in the backyard. Big fun, beautiful “handyman” cake from Flour Patch Bakery and brilliant birthday wishes all around.
A big shout-out to Barista Kids for sending you this colorful party Postcard from Kidsville!

Our new house on the corner
Sunday, September 13th, 2009With sunny 3-month and 18-month-old girls, you’d never know that this family had just moved into there new digs and were still in the process of re-organizing their life. Talk about a lovely family! You know the kind that make you feel right at home the minute you step in the door. And what a grand front door indeed–the perfect dramatic background for their little ingénue.
I just love morning light, and there was none better for documenting the special occasion of the christening of their youngest. Baby and big sister looked absolutely stunning in their flowing outfits and mom and dad couldn’t have beamed more brightly. So glad that grandma could make a special visit for the session. My only regret is that I couldn’t quite catch up with Rocky the dog, the grand embassador of the family. Next time I’ll have to bring my running shoes! Thanks so much to you all for a fairytale session. Simply beautiful.

Sunny morning
Thursday, July 2nd, 2009Family is a beautiful thing. I had the great pleasure of photographing this family on a sunny Saturday morning. Talk about a lot of fun–this was a whirlwind session with a little bit of everything! The family was celebrating the baptism of their youngest member, and took the opportunity to turn it into a full blown family portrait session.
Alas, I finally ran out of memory cards, but I could have stayed all day. Hope you all had fun at the zoo!
