Our new house on the corner

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

With sunny 3-month and 18-month-old girls, you’d never know that this family had just moved into there new digs and were still in the process of re-organizing their life. Talk about a lovely family! You know the kind that make you feel right at home the minute you step in the door. And what a grand front door indeed–the perfect dramatic background for their little ingĂ©nue.

I just love morning light, and there was none better for documenting the special occasion of the christening of their youngest. Baby and big sister looked absolutely stunning in their flowing outfits and mom and dad couldn’t have beamed more brightly. So glad that grandma could make a special visit for the session. My only regret is that I couldn’t quite catch up with Rocky the dog, the grand embassador of the family. Next time I’ll have to bring my running shoes! Thanks so much to you all for a fairytale session. Simply beautiful.

Return to the garden

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Do you believe in magic? I do now, after photographing this particularly wonderful family. There was definitely something special about the light that day, and the look in there eyes as they all gazed at each other. Was it the return to a beautiful garden that mom and dad hold dear, or maybe sharing that experience with their sweet little son? Or was it just plain love?! Well, you be the judge.

I thank them very much for allowing me to capture this chapter of their story. Photographs are like proof to me. Proof of what you might ask? Proof that you can never stop too often to make note of what’s most important in life. Love, family and friends are at the top of my list. What’s at the top of yours?

Postcards from Kidsville: a bubble to remember

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Babies and bubbles in the backyard — it’s gotta officially be summer! This was the first time this little cutie had seen a bubble. Can you remember the first time you saw one float by, reflecting the whole world in rainbow colors? Such a perfectly round, effortlessly floating pocket of air that only lasts a few seconds. Although I did manage to blow a bubble once that lasted for over four minutes. It’s true–we timed it!

My kids love some entertainment in the kitchen at mealtime (thank goodness for tile floors), so I whip out the bottle of bubbles for some instant fun. Bubbles and any kind of cheese is enough to rate it a 5-star meal. Well, that one bubble floated from room to room and back again with the help of a floor fan. I kept it aloft with a few waves of a magazine every now and then. I wonder what special powers that bubble had? Or just how old that bottle of bubbles was? In any case, it’s a bubble we won’t soon forget.

When did your kids see their first bubbles? Do tell — we’d all love to know!

And as always, a hearty thanks to Barista Kids for blowing this rainbow-liscious Postcard from Kidsville right at you!

In the Backyard

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

When I look at this session, I can’t help but hum Kodachrome by Simon and Garfunkel (I suppose I kinda just dated myself there). Those are definitely the greens of summer, and personally make me think all the world’s a sunny day.

The days of kodachrome are all but gone, but somehow happy kids in the backyard can instantly take me back to the days when I spent countless hours rolling around in the grass watching the clouds go by. Thank goodness some things never change, and I hope they never will. Yep, I’m one of those sentimental fools…how about you?

Twins in Wonderland

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Ahhh, Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. As close to Wonderland as I think I could ever get. So what an absolute treat to photograph a day in the life of a new family with a set of twin boys on a sunny, quiet holiday weekend. I don’t pretend to remember a lot of details from those early weeks and months with my own twin sons. Thank goodness for my 62 gigs of new family snapshots (hmmm–I really need to edit those down). Guess that’s what I needed to have proof of life with my now twin toddler boys. It really does just zoom right by.

A few nice professional portraits along the way would’ve been nice (especially one with me in it!). Now why didn’t I think of that? If you’re a parent of multiples, you know I’ve got a goofy smile on my face right now. And you know why.
